To eliminate nonconformances in the control of the documents and records, and improve efficiency of operations, TUP Visayas is preparing for International Organization for Standardization Quality Management System (ISO QMS) certification stage 1 audit.

Currently, TUP Visayas is on the Corrective and Preventive Action (CAPA) implementation of the findings of both the International Quality Audit by 21 qualified faculty and staff serving as internal auditors and Pre-assessment by two ISO consultants.

As mandated in Executive Order (EO) 605, section 1, all state colleges and universities (SUCs) are enjoined to established ISO QMS and be certified. Aside from being used as a performance indicator of the Department of Budget Management (DBM), ISO certification also has several benefits such as enabling greater company capability and reality, setting challenges for employees, installing built-in mechanism for improvement and effecting commitment of the institution to meet customer and regulatory requirements.

“Going into the Pre-certification process has indeed been very challenging and demanding on the part of the Quality Assurance Office, Management and Process owners. We have to thank our campus director and the office of the Assistant Director for Academic Affairs (ADAA) for providing us with the resources for our QMS processes, the three assistant directors for giving support to the rest of their section and department heads, laboratories-in-charge and directly involving themselves in the QMS process… I am looking forward for the continued support of the management and process owners because ISO certification shall only be realized through our concerted efforts,” Dr. Melinda Sisles, QM representative said in an interview with the Philippine Artisan.
